As a 19-year-old Israeli, Atalya is obligated to enlist in the armed forces. But she has witnessed military rule in the occupied Palestinian territories – a reality that most other young Israelis never experience – and one that leads her to become a conscientious objector.
Refusing service as a public protest of Israeli policy means facing up to 6 months in prison. As Atalya anticipates this reality, she also worries about becoming a target for public vitriol. Her decision is met with opposition from family members, who both disagree with her politics and fear for her future. Family legacies weigh on her as she considers the meaning of this national rite of passage. But she has come to understand the military as the enforcer of an apartheid regime, and nothing will stop her from defying it. If going to prison is the only way to make her dissenting voice heard, she’s willing to pay that price.

"Objector" offers a window into the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the perspective of a Jewish woman making an uncommon sacrifice.

Whos_Behind_this_Film

This film is a collaboration between Tommy Tang and Audrey Seda. We discovered Barefoot College while researching sustainable organizations, and were shocked to find that it was relatively unknown despite the strides it has made in rural health, education, sustainability, and women’s empowerment over the years. We decided that this school deserved to have its story told, and have committed ourselves to that end. Tommy’s filmography includes directing “Production Value,” a documentary about zero-budget filmmaking that screened at NFFTY (National Film Festival For Talented Youth) and Ardor Media’s Cine-City.

Director Statement

Solar power is an amazing, yet under-appreciated new technology. With this film, we hope to raise awareness and interest about this clean and abundant form of energy.

Director Statement

"Birthday" is not pro-war or anti-war. It is a simple story of love, strength and courage through enormous adversity. As a veteran myself, I appreciate greatly the sacrifices our wounded veterans and their spouses have made over the past decade. This is my ode to two souls forging ahead during enormously difficult times, like so many vets and their families have had to do and are still doing.

Director Biography

My passion is story telling. Stories were told long before I was born and will be told long after I die and that is what I love about stories, they are immortal, they live in our hearts and transform life’s.

My grandfather taught me how to tell stories, by telling them to me and I am telling them to people around the world through moving images.

My movie directing career started in China, where I won Sony and China Normal University Film festival, with my first film – Kaleidoscope. After that followed work as 1st AD on large Chinese films, where I gained experience and moved on to directing my own films, commercials and music videos.

Movies are my passion for 15 years now but every day feels like first. Like that feeling when you fall in love, but for me all 15 years are like first day of love. Flying on wings of love, on wings of movies!

Director Statement

This was the hardest movie or project I have ever made. 4 month of rehearsals with main actor Aleksandrs Ronis, who never acted or did anything related to film. We found him playing sitting volleyball game and from the first encounter I knew there is something magical about him.
Just 2 years ago he was a street boy, homeless and in a gang, now he started to fix his life and he told me stories that inspired to create this film. Story that is not about disabled person (I hate this word - disabled), or person without legs, but a story of person who never stops in front of obstacles, a story of a person who fights for his dreams, story that anyone can relate to.
We are stronger then we think! There are no limits to what we can do and accomplish!

This film took us 10 month to make, but it created so much happiness. For our main actor it was becoming an actor and telling his story to the world, for me it was opportunity to tell a story that touches my heart and which I believe will touch other people hearts for our team it was realization of how much we can do if we believe in our dreams!

Animal Equality pioneered the use of VR films in the animal protection movement by giving viewers the first immersive 360 experience into the hidden world of factory farms and slaughterhouses. Animal Equality’s iAnimal VR 360 series increases people’s understanding of where their food comes from and is raising global awareness of the need for greater animal protections and more compassionate choices that are better for people, animals and the environment. For example, Sam Dolnick of The New York Times commented that he knew all about the cruel practices of the meat industry but was not persuaded to give up meat until watching iAnimal. This video takes you on an immersive journey through the lives of dairy cows and calves from birth to death. We show standard legal practices of the dairy industry in the US and worldwide, such as dehorning, milking, and separation of mother cow and calf. We want to create awareness of industries that harm animals in an effort to inspire consumers to make informed, and hopefully more compassionate decisions regarding food and beverage choices.
